Media Grounds

"Media Grounds" use a set of advertisements or magazines as the foundation for a painted montage and to generate layered meanings for the images and texts. In each case the ad or magazine is transformed into an art object. Unlike traditional collage or montage made from found photographic material, this work objectifies found images by using them as the canvas for material paintings. The conceit is to remove the images from their intended commercial origins and repurpose them through obfuscation and re-combination.
