Mail Patterns
These drawings are about specialized public languages and codes like the marks made by workers on walls, roads or sidewalks. These are languages created to support us existing somewhere outside our comprehension or notice. This work explores the aesthetic of that language. Postal boxes are receptacles for this type of mark. Handled by any number of hands and machines between starting point and destination they accumulate dents, scratches and markings. The route taken is determined and marked with often familiar signs and symbols but which, though specialization and commonality become obscured in plain sight.
